Getting on in the year with practice…

Stretching, body awareness, focus on surroundings at all times, getting ready for spring outdoor training, keeping in mind that our studies are ongoing for life and not just a phase to “get in shape”.

Starting in the New Year…2010

With the New Year in full swing, it may be a good time for all to think over your training habits. A little focus on more basics training and an overall look at how much time your willing to spend at the work. Good luck to all and Happy New Year to all this coming 2010!

Traditional vs. Henka

When doing our practice, we make every effort to analyze the provided information on specifically how to do a technique. With the translation issue from Japanese to English and the many variations of how to analyze such things, it is great to be able to also analyze henka. (variation of the technique)
We also attempt to stress that “henka” is a variation of the technique and not something completely different. So when working on your henka, and your attempting to do mae geri from ichimonji no kamae, your not going to do a henka that is a chi no gata movement out of jumonji no kamae ;-)

Warming up for class vs. warming up

When a cat or a dog wakes up it stretches. You’ve all seen this at some point or another. Many martial arts systems insist on warming up a bit before class to avoid injury. This is a wise thing in it’s own right. But something to consider a little wiser would be to warm up and stretch every day (junan taiso) so your always ready for anything on a daily basis.

An important blog site to reference
